On February 14th, 2018, Mtre Paul Ryan was invited by the APFF to present on various current issues in tax litigation. He then presented on recent case law in tax matters, including limitations on the auditing powers of tax authorities, assessments using indirect or estimated methods to assess taxpayers’ income, and sentences (fines and imprisonment) for tax evasion. Mtre Ryan also discussed recent amendments to the Federal Voluntary Disclosures Program and the Québec Economic Plan to fight tax evasion and the use of tax havens.
