PAUL RYAN, Ad. E.
PROFILE
Mr. Paul Ryan has over 30 years of experience in tax litigation and represents a multitude of clients in contact with tax authorities (corporate and personal income tax, GST, QST and other taxes, voluntary disclosures, tax fraud, tax bankruptcy and proposals, customs duties, etc.).
Mr. Ryan has built a reputation as a seasoned negotiator and litigator with a synthetic mind that allows him to get to the point and avoid unnecessary debate.
In recent years, Mr. Ryan has represented hundreds of taxpayers who have repatriated funds held abroad with his assistance, by making a voluntary disclosure to the Canada Revenue Agency and Revenue Quebec.
Mr. Ryan is also an accredited Mediator with the Bar of Québec and his vast experience, knowledge of taxation and conciliatory skills allow him to guide parties in conflict towards original and practical choices to settle their disputes.
Mr. Ryan also assists Quebec-based companies applying to the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF – Financial Market Authority) for the required authorization to request and get certain public contracts in Quebec, pursuant to the Act respecting public bodies contracts (RLRQ c. C-65.1).
Mr. Ryan is a frequent speaker for various organizations, including the Association de planification fiscale et financière (APFF – Fiscal and Financial Planning Association), Insight, The Canadian Institute, the Bar of Quebec, the Canadian Bar Association and MacKenzie Financial. He also teaches at the University of Montréal, as part of the Master’s Degree of Laws in Taxation option, which is offered jointly by the Faculty of Law and HEC Montreal. Mr. Ryan has also published numerous reference texts in the field of taxation.
Mr. Ryan has always been actively involved in the legal and tax community and has chaired several committees, including the Liaison Committee between the Bar of Montreal and the Tax Court of Canada and the APFF’s Voluntary Disclosures Committee. Mr. Ryan is also a member of several other APFF Committees, as well as the Committee on the Economy and Public Finance of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.
Mr. Ryan is the author of the book Quand le Fisc attaque (When Fisc Attacks), published in 2012 by Éditions La Presse.
